EXPLANATION VIDEO - OUR GYMNASIUM PREPARATION COURSES

Course structure

1

Part 1: Theoretical basics

At the beginning of the course, we review all the theoretical basics of essay writing. We look at how an essay is planned, what aspects need to be considered when writing and what is expected in terms of revision. In particular, we clarify the following questions:

  • Exam topics: What writing assignments can I expect in the entrance exam? What is expected of my text in terms of content? How can I avoid missing the point?
  • Types of text: Which types of text do I need to master in the exam? What are the typical characteristics of these text types that I need to consider when writing?
  • Planning: How can I plan my essay so that it has a common thread, a clear structure and a suspenseful arc? To what extent does the planning for the Gymi exam affect my grade?
  • Vocabulary & style: How can I improve the language in my text? For example, how can I create varied, complex sentences and find appropriate words?
  • Perspectives: Which different perspectives should I master? How do I recognize which perspective is required?

Young people often don't know exactly how they can improve their writing skills and how an essay grade is calculated. This intensive course gives them numerous tips and tricks to help them on their way.

Part 2: Writing essays

True to the saying "practice makes perfect", the focus of the course is on intensive essay writing. On each day of the course, participants write a text and receive detailed feedback. The essay topics are each adapted to the theoretical principles discussed, so that these are firmly anchored through practical implementation.

3

Part 3: Implementing feedback

Students can only improve their writing skills if they understand our feedback on their essay and can actually apply it. For this reason, each written feedback is followed by a verbal, individual coaching session in which specific implementation options are discussed. The young people then have the opportunity to revise the text and resubmit it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay for tutoring in advance?

No, you don't have to. You will receive an invoice at the end of the month with all the tutoring lessons.

Can I spontaneously book more tutoring if I need to prepare for an exam, for example?

Of course - you can decide individually when and how many tutoring lessons you need. This can be significantly more one week than the next.

Do I have to bring the material myself?

You can also decide this yourself - many students would like to discuss the documents from school together and therefore take them with them to tutoring. However, we are also happy to put together additional material for you.

What happens if I am unavailable or ill?

As long as you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, we will not charge for the lesson. If you are unable to attend at very short notice, we will unfortunately have to charge you for the lesson, as we would like to pay the teachers their usual wages in such cases - and they have already fully prepared for the lesson.

Frequently asked questions

How big are the groups in your courses?

Um eine optimale Förderung gewährleisten zu können, sind unsere Kurse auf maximal 8 Teilnehmende in den halbjährigen Kursen und 10 Teilnehmende in den Intensiv- und Ferienkursen beschränkt.

Are you also available for support outside of course times?

Of course, we are always available for our students and are happy to help with any questions. We have group chats in the respective course groups to make it easy to get in touch.

What learning material is included in the course?

The course fee includes a comprehensive folder with theory, exercises and solutions. Students also receive access to our digital course platform with explanatory videos, numerous additional exercises and checkpoints. We are also happy to put together additional materials on request.

What exactly are repetition lessons and checkpoints?

In the voluntary revision lessons, all the relevant basics that were previously discussed in the course are repeated again. The lesson is recorded so that you have the opportunity to watch it afterwards if you are unable to attend live. Our checkpoints are specially developed interim tests that can be completed after each learning unit. This means that young people always know exactly what they have already mastered and what they still need to work on.
