Overview of educational pathways:
BMS, FMS & HMS

HMS
The commercial middle school follows on from the 2nd or 3rd year of secondary school and leads to the Federal Certificate of Proficiency (EFZ) in Business Administration with Vocational Baccalaureate (BMS). The HMS lasts a total of 4 years. The three-year school-based part is followed by a one-year internship in the commercial sector.
The entrance exam to the HMS is the same as the Gymi exam - however, a lower average grade is sufficient to pass.

FMS
The FMS begins after the 3rd secondary level, lasts three years and concludes with the federally recognized Fachmittelschulausweis, which enables admission to a Höhere Fachschule. In the first year (basic year), the teaching is the same for all profiles; in the second and third year, the training is separated according to profile.

BMS
The vocational baccalaureate combines professional practice with an extended general education. The vocational baccalaureate certificate enables examination-free access to a course of study related to the profession at a university of applied sciences.
The BMS can be completed during the apprenticeship (BM 1) or following the apprenticeship (BM 2).

Students can choose between the following specializations:
- Engineering, Architecture, Life Sciences
- Nature, Landscape and Food
- Business and Services
- Design and Art
- Health and Social Affairs

The entrance examination for the BM1 is the same as the entrance examination for the FMS.
